Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants are a preferred method for replacing missing teeth because they’re actually attached to your jawbone, compared to removable appliances like bridges or dentures. This means they fit and function like natural teeth for your comfort and convenience. There are also many other reasons to choose dental implants:

  • They improve not only the appearance of your smile, but your confidence too.
  • They can last for decades with proper care.
  • They allow you to chew and speak more easily.
  • They stop your surrounding teeth from moving into the empty space, which can increase your risk of tooth decay.
  • They can be brushed and flossed just like your other teeth—no special care needed!
  • They promote bone health by preventing your jawbone from deteriorating.
  • They prevent your face from sagging, which can occur when you are missing teeth.

Dental Implants FAQ

How Do Dental Implants Work?

A dental implant is titanium post, resembling a screw or cylinder, that we surgically place in your jaw. During this procedure, we use the appropriate anesthesia/sedation so that you are kept comfortable. The biocompatible dental implant then fuses with your jawbone to form a strong foundation that acts as the root of your replacement tooth. This healing process is called osseointegration, and it can take a few weeks to a few months.

After the dental implant has properly fused, we then create, fit, and place a restoration on top. This restoration is a crown that resembles the appearance and feel of a natural tooth. Once the procedure is complete, you’ll have an artificial tooth that blends in seamlessly with your other teeth!

Does the Dental Implant Procedure Hurt?

Although the idea of oral surgery may sound intimidating, the implant placement procedure is nothing to fear! We’ll numb the area and do everything else we can to help you feel comfortable and at ease while we work. If you have any questions or concerns about the procedure, contact our Hamburg office and one of our team members would be happy to speak with you!

What Is Denture Stabilization?

Denture stabilization is the technique of using mini dental implants to better secure dentures. We place these mini dental implants in a minimally invasive procedure that takes just one appointment. The mini dental implants then snap together with your dentures. This allows you to enjoy more comfortable dentures that fit better and eliminate the need for adhesives. Denture stabilization with mini dental implants is also a more affordable option compared to traditional dental implants.

Do Dental Implants Last Forever?

With proper care, your dental implants can last for years, even a lifetime. However, the tooth restorations on top of your implant may need to be repaired or replaced from time to time. Dentures, bridges, and crowns are all subject to natural wear and tear and require periodic maintenance. If you currently have a damaged tooth restoration, call our West Seneca office and Dr. Bartos can fix or replace it.

Am I a Good Candidate for Implants?

Almost every person who is missing one or more teeth can be a candidate for dental implants. However, we won’t know for sure until we perform an examination and X-rays. If you’re suffering from jawbone loss, implantation is still possible, but we’ll have to perform a bone graft before we can proceed. If you’re looking into getting dental implants, but you aren’t sure if they’re right for you, please contact our office. Dr. Bartos will walk you through the dental implant process, examine your smile, and recommend a tooth replacement solution that fits your needs.

How Much Are Dental Implants?

The cost of dental implants varies based on the health of your jawbone, the number of implants you’re getting, and the type of tooth restorations you choose. When you visit our office for an implant consultation, we’ll examine your smile and provide you with a cost estimate tailored to your specific needs. At McKinley Crossing Dental, we do our best to help the Hamburg, West Seneca, and Orchard Park communities fit smile restorations into their budget.
